Keeper of Enchanted Rooms is a cozy fantasy with a slow-burn romance, a haunted house that's not malicious, and a magic system that's easy to understand.
Merritt, a writer, inherits a house that seems like a dream come true until the door shuts behind him, trapping him. Luckily for Merritt, Hulda the housekeeper knows how to wrangle magic. Luckily for both of them, they make the cutest non-couple in the world.
Hulda was great. Stern but likable. She reminded me of a young McGonagall. Merritt was like a mischievous boy in a man's body but without any classic "man-child" traits. I found myself rooting for them immediately.
There is a villain in this story, but honestly, it feels so secondary to these two delightful people getting to know each other and opening up about their pasts.
The most unique thing about this book is the haunted house. It is truly a character in its own right. The house is vivid and dynamic and might be my favorite character of the three!
